Obviously I've arrived meanwhile, and that's true in many aspects - and I enjoy a lot!
Life is never without worries and hardships - but if context and proportions are right, it's spice not bitterness. So I'm blessed and grateful.
My job role in Nokia for the past 2 years has been in Enterprise Architecture, with a focus on operational processes, IT service management and systems management. Which are highly relevant topics in a company transforming into a major global provider of various services for mobile consumers, all of them IT based.
From July 1st, I will change to lead the Computing Operations team, which I see as a great next step. And it marks a huge change for me - some topics will stay, but the multi-year strategic Enterprise Architecture view is now replaced with the most operational day to day challenge one could think of. I will lead a team which is mainly based in Finland (Salo), but also covers Dallas and Singapore. Which is another big change from the current role, where I sometimes felt a bit as "lonesome rider", even though I was of course building my network in Nokia.
My first reaction to the proposal of taking this role was big surprise - I had not expected this at all. But it took less than a day or so, thinking about it and I saw the big honor and the great opportunities. It is a honor, because I see this being at the very core of Nokia's goal to provide great service experience for consumers And I see opportunities, because there's a strong team with a lot of history, and paramount changes, for sure both nice and uneasy ones.
Unlike most areas in Nokia, we're even hiring, as the capability urgently requires strengthening.
And looking at Nokia's challenges, it's not wrong to worry about the long- or mid-term strategy, but it's at least as relevant to ensure success in current operations.
So this really feels like a clear step closer to "the heart of Nokia", and with a mostly finnish team, also to Finland. Which will bring back the topics of learning vocabulary... :-)
Exciting times ahead, I look forward to this! Yet the next weeks will be vacation in sunny Mallorca!
